Unknown gunmen last night raided Ngoko village in Kitswamba Sub county of Kasese district, Western Uganda.
The assailants killed one Betty Biira and injured her nephew, a 14-year-old Harrison Masereka who ran away from them and dashed to Ngoko trading centre.
Masereka who is nursing three deep wounds on his head from Mt. St Mary’s Hospital in Kasese town revealed that they were attacked by five people who were in possession of guns, pangas and an axe.
Speaking to our reporter today morning, he said the assailants demanded for food from his aunt before they cut her on the head with a panga several times and then they turned to him and also inflicted the damage using the same panga.
Mr. Joseph Kato, the Chairperson for Ngoko village revealed that the assailants also abducted a one Aston Agaba while James Thembo and Julius Byaruhanga escaped from the jaws of abduction when they ran away from the suspected rebels.
Zimonia Mumbere Buseku, a rice farmer in the area appealed to the security organs to provide enough security to the farmers especially during day as they provide protection to their rice plantations.
Yofesi Katenene, the Kitswamba sub-county chairperson says the incident happened barely a week after the Resident District Commissioner chaired a security meeting at Ngoko trading centre and told the residents about suspected insurgents hiding within Kibale National Park.
Katenene, who appealed to the residents to remain calm as the UPDF pursues the rebels, also appealed to the government to improve the road network within the areas of Ngoko and Bigando which are adjacent to the National Park.
Rwenzori East Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Luke Mbusa confirmed the incident and noted that scene of crime was visited by the Scene of Crime Officers and documented the about the incident as investigations were ongoing.
