School administrators have been assigned the task of raising public awareness regarding various education policies aimed at promoting education in the country.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by Mr. Joseph Nzukwa, the Chairperson of the Rwenzori Region and Kasese District Association of Secondary School Head Teachers (ASSHU). He addressed a general meeting of school head teachers from Kasese at Bwera Secondary School in Bukonzo West.
Mr. Nzukwa, who also serves as the Head Teacher for Kuruhe High School in Busongora North, emphasized that the Ministry of Education and Sports, through the Ugandan Parliament, has established several policies to govern education. These policies cover the responsibilities of the government, schools, parents, and students.
He highlighted the importance of school head teachers understanding and informing the public about these policies to ensure the delivery of quality education.
Furthermore, Mr. Nzukwa shared that Enable, a Belgian Development Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, will conduct a baseline survey of several schools in the region. This survey aims to gather information for the construction of new school buildings. He added that Enable has been a development partner to Uganda for over 20 years and is focused on implementing the National Teacher's Policy and Skilling Uganda Strategy at both central and grassroots levels.
In the same meeting, Mr. Silver Aisu Epiu, the Head Teacher at Munkunyu Secondary School in Kinyamaseke Town Council and the Secretary for Academics under ASSHU, cautioned school head teachers against malpractice during upcoming final exams, as it could result in the withdrawal of Education Center Numbers. He also advised head teachers to effectively utilize the study materials provided by the government.
Mr. Nzukwa previously instructed school heads to officially register their boards of governors with the Ministry of Education and Sports to facilitate proper coordination with the government.
