Leaders in Bukonzo County Take Strong Stand Against Misuse of Parish Development Model Funds

In Bukonzo County, Kasese District, leaders are taking a firm stance against the misuse of Parish Development Model (PDM) Funds.

This initiative was launched on June 29th, 2023, by Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku Kiime, the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, with the aim of benefiting at least two thousand and thirty enterprise groups in the first phase.

Leaders in Kasese have reported that the distribution of the first release of funds in nearly all forty-four administrative units concluded successfully, albeit with a few instances of corruption in some areas.

Mr. Mbwarara Milton, the Chairperson of Local Council Three for Kithoma-Kanyatsi Town Council in Bukonzo West-Kasese, confirmed that 545.1 million PDM funds have been distributed to beneficiaries. He further announced that the council members have passed a resolution to conduct evaluations and monitoring visits to individuals who received these funds.

Mr. Julius Kyasuba, the Chairperson of Local Council Three for Mahango Sub County in Bukonzo East, highlighted the significant role of parish chiefs in ensuring the proper utilization of PDM funds. In his area, they have received 400 million, and leaders are committed to monitoring the funds. Anyone found misusing them will face arrest and legal charges for the misuse of government funds.

Leaders like Mr. Sunday Peter Kakule, the Chairperson of Local Council Three for Nyakiyumbu Sub County in Bukonzo West, stress that achieving the goals of the PDM program is only possible if all leaders work together to eliminate corruption.

This proactive approach by Bukonzo County leaders aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of PDM funds, ultimately benefiting the intended enterprise groups and the community at large.
