Kasese Leaders & Managers Cautioned On Security Over ADF Attacks
Leaders and managers of public places in Kasese District have been urged to establish security committees to share security intelligence with and collaborate with the Uganda People's Defense Forces in ensuring peace in the region.
This request follows a series of attacks by suspected Allied Democratic Force Rebels (ADF), impacting various activities, including business, tourism, and the well-being of residents, particularly those living along the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a recent incident at Queen Elizabeth National Park, two tourists and their guide were killed by suspected ADF Rebels, and their vehicle was set on fire.
Many leaders and residents in Kasese District and Uganda as a whole have strongly condemned these attacks. Figures such as Mr. Bahemuka Andrew, the local chairperson of Nyamighera Village, and Mr. Muhekwa Mbusa from Nyakiyumbu Sub County, have called on the government to recruit local guides who can assist the UPDF in safeguarding the country.

These two individuals expressed their dismay over last month's attack, where a group of unidentified suspected ADF rebels opened fire and later set a truck carrying onions on fire. The incident occurred along the Bwera-Kasese Road, resulting in the death of the driver and an unidentified woman.
Mr. Katabura Baguma, who serves as a driver and Chairperson for Musyenene Trading Center in Nyakiyumbu Sub County, emphasized the need for leaders to convene security meetings to establish guidelines governing various businesses, including hotels, lodges, and transport. He encouraged business communities to identify their customers when providing services.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Former Minister of Defense and a member of the Kasese National Resistance Movement (NRM), emphasized that the Uganda People's Defense Forces are actively working to apprehend those responsible for the deaths of innocent tourists from the United Kingdom and South Africa, as well as their guide. He added that the UPDF is also conducting operations against ADF rebels in parts of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Dr. Kiyonga urged locals to remain vigilant, cooperate, and strengthen village security by promptly reporting any threats to the relevant security agencies or leaders. He noted that suspected rebels are attempting to abduct Ugandans and seize medication from health facilities in Uganda.
